Miles Robinson selected #2 in MLS Superdraft

Miles Robinson of Arlington was the second pick in the Major League Soccer draft on Friday when he was the first selection of Atlanta United FC, an expansion team joining the MLS this season.

"I'm definitely honored to be drafted second overall to Atlanta," said Robinson in an interview that was live streamed from the MLS website. "I'm excited to get out there and play with those guys. It's a good experience already."

A standout at Syracuse University at the ACC's Defensive Player of the Year last season as a sophomore. "It's unbelievable," he said of being drafted. "It's like a dream come true. It's a new franchise but I feel like it's a franchise that has great potential with such great coaches. I'm just happy to be a part of it."

He thanked his parents Jeff & Jane and his sister Becca, who is running track and field at Syracuse, during his speech.

"Growing up as a kid I loved to play soccer," he said while on the podium. "I started off with the FC Bolts Academy.  At Syracuse I met great people and great friends. I have to thank the coaches for teaching me so much in so little time. I have to thank Atlanta United for giving me this opportunity to prove myself at the next level."

The announcers at the draft praised Robinson.

"Just a solid all-around player," said Alexi Lalas. "He has a chance to be a starter very soon in the MLS. I like this pick a lot for Atlanta."
